Interaction Web Design Greatly Enhance Users’ Experience

In the current world, interaction Web design has become an integral component in a large umbrella of user experience (UX) design. High-quality interactive web designs and models consist of the development of more complex, transitive, and dynamic elements.

Many of the design ecosystems today comprise animated scrolling, micro-interactions, and parallax which brings the best user experiences for the end-user. Maintaining high standards of visual aesthetics with subtle experiences is important for any web design to keep users coming back.

Basic Understanding Interaction Web Design

Interaction web design is described in simple terms as the design of the interaction between products and the user. In most cases when people comment on interaction design, the product is the software that could be an app or website. The primary aim of interaction design is to develop products that let users achieve their objectives in the best possible manner.

The interaction design space is quite broad since it features the interaction of a user and a product involving various elements like sound, aesthetics, space, motion, and many others. Also, each of these elements can involve more specialized arenas. For example, there is sound design for the creation of sounds that are used in user interactions.

Notably, there is a major overlap between interaction web design and the UX design. In general, UX design is all about shaping the experience of using an app or site. Most of that experience comprises of some interaction between the user and the product.

However, the UX design is much more than interaction design. It consists of user research, creating user personas, usability testing, and performing user testing.

5 Dimensions Of Interaction Web Design

The 5 dimensions of interaction design is a critical model used to understand what makes up interaction design. This concept was introduced by Gillian Crampton Smith and later upgraded by a senior interaction designer at IDEXX Laboratories, Kevin Silver.

1D: Words

The words that are used in interactions like button labels should always be concise, clear, appropriate, and simple to understand. They need to communicate information to the users and should not be overwhelming.

2D: Visual Representations

This dimension consists of graphical elements including typography, images, and icons that users interact with while on the app or website. They normally supplement the words to communicate effectively to the users.

3D: Physical Objects And Space

Designers must determine what physical objects their users prefer to interact with their apps or website. Is it a laptop with a mouse or a touchpad? Or is it a smartphone or iPad with the user’s fingers? Also, they need to know what type of physical space they users mostly are in when interacting with the product.

For example, the user might be standing in a crowded place while using the app on a mobile device or sitting at some desk in an office or at home surfing the site. All these factors affect to some extent the interaction that exists between the user and the product.

4D: Time

Although this dimension appears slightly abstract, it mainly refers to media that changes considerably with time including videos, animation, and sounds. The sounds and motion play a critical role in offering audio and visual feedback to the users’ interactions. Another factor of importance is the amount of time that a user spends while interacting with the product. Is it possible for the users to track their progress or pause and then resume their interactions later on?

5D: Behaviour

This dimension comprises the mechanism of a product: how do different users perform various actions on the website? How do the users operate the app or website? In general, it seeks to determine how the previous dimensions define the interactions of an app or website. Additionally, it includes the reactions of the users and the product, for example, feedback or emotional responses.

The interaction designs and UX designs, when implemented correctly, play an integral role in attracting and retaining users to a product. Knowledgeable and experienced developers succeed in gaining many users and customers by creatively utilizing this design to their products.
