Now, 3D Asset NFTs may not look like a thing yet but they are steadily gaining ground as Metaverse ecosystems continue to emerge and web3 technologies are the basis for interactions within such ecosystems. Looking Glass Labs (LGL) the Canadian NFT architecture agency has created new 3D assets for the popular NFT collections Gutter Cat Gang and Bored Ape Yacht Club.
We were intrigued about this and reached out to Looking Glass Labs CEO Dorian Banks about this. Here’s how the interview went.

Please, can you tell us more about the House of Kibaa (HoK) and its 3D asset NFTs?
House of Kibaa has been primarily a producer of 3D NFTs and is now working on it’s own metaverse.

What exactly is the level of involvement of HoK with the Metaverse?
HoK has begun building our own metaverse using Unreal Engine 5, a highly realistic world building tool. We will launch our alpha version in the 1st half of 2022.

What is the creative process behind the 3D assets?
Our Creative Director works with either our internal marketing/design teams or if doing 3rd party work, directly with the client. Several iterations are completed before finalizing the collection.

What is the relationship between HoK, the Gutter Cat Gang, and the Bored Ape Yacht Club?
After Bored Ape Yacht Club launched we decided to produce 3D assets for the project, claimable by owners free of charge. It was a proof of concept for our teams. With Gutter Cat Gang, HoK has been contracted to produce 3D assets for their customers.

BAYC was proof of concept, taking a 2D image and envisioning what a 3D version might look like. WIth Gutter Cat Gang, we wanted to help the project advance it’s metaverse ambitions.

3D NFTs are required for metaverse use. As metaverses become a reality, 3D NFTs will be an absolute requirement.

I’m CEO of LGL and HoK but I feel that Neal Stephenson has always delivered a creative version of the future. He also coined the term ‘metaverse’.

They have full rigging built into their 3D file, illustrating where articulation points are in the character.

Dropping 10,000 GenZeroe avatars which are metaverse ready. We are even now producing a live action series based on the characters!

What was your inspiration behind the name House of Kibaa?
The Founder’s dog is named Kiba but he couldn’t get that social media handle so he added an “a”.
